The Sledge Track is located at the end of Kahuterawa Road, 17 km from the Palmerston North. It was opened in 2003. Ian Argyle proposed the development of the track to Palmerston North City Council in 1999, as part of the walkway network. Over the succeeding years, and following the original survey of the old road, Mr Argyle aided by volunteers, opened up and cleared what would become know as the 'Sledge Track". The fence was built by the Palmerston North City Council and the Queen Elizabeth 2nd Trust, fencing in 74 hectares of J&K Love’s property to protect Sledge Track bush re-growth.
