Empire Hotel, corner of Main and Princess Streets
- Description
The first Empire Hotel was built on this site in 1890, but was burnt down in 1895. Another hotel was built the same year, and it was that building that forms the basis of the current Empire Hotel. Extensive renovations over the years have changed the look of the hotel but in 1997 a further renovation saw the building restored using original photographs.Photographs taken for Historic Pubs of Palmerston North walk, Local History Week 2010. Tour guides Bryan Ibell and Cindy Lilburn.
