A MESSAGE OF
GRATITUDE FROM
THE ARIES

The Rt. Hon. Peter Fraser,
Prime Minister,
New Zealand.

I should like to take the opportunity of the flight of Aries
to New Zealand to let you know how much we in the United
Kingdom have appreciated what the Government and people
of New Zealand have done, and are doing in providing food-
stuffs for this country.

We have been deeply touched by the efforts in all parts
of the Commonwealth and Empire to produce and export the
maximum quantities of all those foodstuffs which are so
urgently needed during this difficult period of shortage
throughout the world.

We know of the vigorous steps which the New Zealand
Government is taking with the assistance of the New Zealand
Producers, to maximise production for export; and it was a
happy experience for me to meet Mr. Nash on several
occasions during his recent visit to this country to discuss
our common problems with him and to conclude with him
arrangements for ensuring supplies to this country.

It is a real encouragement to us to know, too, that the
general public in New Zealand are giving a helping hand by
saving out of their own rations in order than extra supplies
may be released for export.

Please convey to the National Famine Emergency
Committee and the people of New Zealand our thanks for
what they are doing towards this end.

(Signed) L. STRACHEY,
British Minister of Food.
