This postcard from the early 1900s gives a clear view of The Square. Some of the visible features are the band rotunda (built 1907, domed structure on left), the Lakelet (opened 1909, foreground), the Te Awe Awe statue at right(erected 1907) and the Post Office (built 1906, building with clock tower) at centre back on the corner of Main Street. To the left can be just seen the rail tracks that ran through The Square until 1964.
