NZ Jersey Cattle Breeders Assn, 129-131 Rangitikei Street
- Description
This three-storey building was designed in 1928 by Clere & Clere, and built in brick and concrete for the NZ Jersey Breeders’ Association. It was erected by the Palmerston North brick manufacturer, William Mouldey, whose brick yard is now the Vautier Park netball courts in Roslyn.
The NZ Jersey Breeders’ Association had been formed in Palmerston North in 1902. Around that time, Manawatu was home to many sheep and cattle breed associations, with the district being described as a “stronghold of breeders of purebred dairy cattle, more particularly Jerseys and Friesians.” The Association’s office remained in Palmerston North until 1988. The building now accommodates Regan’s Furniture Fair.
