Description

This brick building, designed by Clere and Clere, was constructed in 1928 as the Baptist Church. The Baptist Church was established in Palmerston North in 1894, and this building replaced their first church on the same site. In 1982 the building was considered too small and was sold to the Operatic Society and became the Abbey Theatre. A new Baptist church was erected on Church Street west.
