The building was constructed in 1913 and leased to the International Harvester Co. Ltd, 1914–1923, when it was bought by the Hallenstein Brothers , a family clothing retailer (originally of Dunedin). The PNCC bought the building in 1972, but it was still occupied by Hallenstein’s until c1990. It is currently operating as the youth branch of the Palmerston North City Library, aka Youth Space.
