W. Brewer: Bootmaker & Saddler, corner of Cambridge Avenue and Guilford Street, Ashhurst
- Description
-
Walter Norman Brewer (1889-1977) was a sadler and shoe retailer in Ashhurst. He was also actively involved with many groups and committees in the town. Prior to this use, the building was a bank and then the premises of Wycherley – Bootmaker. It is believed to be the second premises of Charles Joseph Wycherley. Located next door to the Excelsior Tea Rooms, at some stage the business expanded to take over the tea rooms. While working in his original premises, Charles took on an apprentice, W N (Wattie) Brewer. Charles died at 37 and Wattie ended up owning the business.
