Ashhurst School opened in September 1879, with Mr F. Whibley as the temporary head teacher. The first permanent head teacher was Mr Alfred Gower (c.1880-1887). In addition to documenting the activities of the school, this log book also includes: School Inspectors’ Reports; an inventory of school furniture, 1885; and an inventory of school requisites, undated.
